And things can only become more exciting when he comes upon inept thieves.

• Just Friends (2005)

Ryan Reynolds is in this movie, so you can tell right away that it’s going to be hilarious. His yearbook signing is mishandled and he is humiliated at Jamie Palomino’s graduation celebration. His character Chris Brander, a former failure in high school, fails horribly in his attempt to confess his genuine affection to his longtime best friend.

Jamie Palomino is played by Amy Smart. He later matures, achieves success, and then unpredictably winds up trapped in his hometown around Christmas, when he rekindles his love for a former flame. Roger Kumble directed this film.

• The Family Stone (2005)

Both comedy and drama are featured in The Family Stone. Even a little romance can be found there. Basically, you may wear it regardless of your mood. The narrative centers on a lady (Sarah Jessica Parker).

She visits her boyfriend’s family during the holidays with the expectation that he will pop the question. She brings in her sister (Claire Danes) for support, but instead of receiving a warm response from them, this complicates matters.

• The Holiday (2006)

This is a romantic comedy about two Americans and two British people who fall in love! This movie is the perfect combo of charming and entertaining moments. Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black are all excellent performers, and their performances take center stage in this film.

And the award for the greatest comedic timing goes to none other than Jack Black. This film is a rom-com with lots of romance, but stars like Jack Black, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, and Jude Law make sure there are plenty of laughs as well. 

• The Night Before (2015)

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, and Anthony Mackie play three boyhood friends who attend their annual Christmas Eve celebration and then become entangled in mayhem while looking for a supposed subterranean party.

And, while the R-rated shenanigans they get themselves into are increasingly ridiculous, it’s also refreshing to watch a film about adults who truly love spending the holidays together, as opposed to most films that depict people doing it out of necessity.

• Office Christmas Party (2016)

Everything you need to know about this movie is in the title: It concerns a company Christmas party that goes awry. However, Will Speck and Josh Gordon’s absurdly silly and ephemeral comedy doesn’t place much emphasis on complexity.

However, if you really must add one more movie to your list, go ahead. Jason Bateman, Olivia Munn, T. J. Miller, Jillian Bell, Vanessa Bayer, Courtney B. Vance, Rob Corddry, Kate McKinnon, and Jennifer Aniston are all part of the ensemble cast.

• A Bad Moms Christmas (2017)

It’s become a bit of a trend to franchise a comedy by bringing in the hilariously inappropriate older generation. It continues the narrative of those terribly poor parents and caretakers told in Bad Moms, which was released in 2016. Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, and Kathryn Hahn return to their boisterous antics in the sequel to their smash hit Bad Moms. This time, though, their mothers are engaged in the drama, and the roles are excellently cast with Cheryl Hines, Christine Baranski, and Susan Sarandon.

• Happiest Season (2020)

Here is another comedy on the challenges of spending holidays with family. “Happiest Season” is a Christmas movie that delivers both everything you anticipate and something you don’t. Abby (Kristen Stewart) intends to propose to her girlfriend Harper (Mackenzie Davis) during the holidays while visiting Harper’s family.

When she arrives, she discovers Harper isn’t out to her family — and that’s not the only secret these cousins conceal from one another. It is one of the best Christmas watches this year. If you haven’t watched this masterpiece yet, you should do so right away.

• Love Hard (2021)

This comedy starts out with such a corny Christmas rom-com: After finding the ideal man on a dating website, Natalie played by Nina Dobrev, plans to go across the nation to surprise him for Christmas.

But as it turns out, her match was a catfish (Jimmy O. Yang), who offers to introduce her to the man whose images he used in exchange for her playing along with him for the season. What may possibly fail? 

• Spirited (2022)

Will Ferrell from Elf and Ryan Reynolds from Once Upon a Deadpool pair up for a holiday movie super-team! The songs from the pair behind The Greatest Showman and La La Land will be used in this musical retelling of A Christmas Carol.

Apple TV is hoping for a new holiday classic with “Spirited,” a big-hearted but clunky spin on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol starring two of the most lovable movie actors alive. “Spirited” is like a huge silly dog in its zeal to entertain, and that drive to entertain can be both its greatest strength and its worst fault.
